Behind the Scenes: Extended Family Photos

Here’s a sneak peek of what it’s like to do a large family photo session with Lemons + Ants Studios. If you are interested in learning more about the booking and planning process check out our previous post.

When working with an extended  family, we usually start with the full family photo first. This is one of the most important photos to get, and we want to be sure it happens before any young kids get bored or tired with the process! We also find that doing the big family photo first is helpful for family members who are a bit nervous. Being together with all the family members  often helps people feel comfortable, less on the spot, and there is often fun and laughter with the big group all together. 

 After the large group photo is done, we work with each smaller family unit. If there is a toddler or infant that needs to get photos done before nap time, or any individuals with other special needs, we take this into consideration when planning the session together. 

 With a large group, there is the opportunity for some people to take a break while other groups are getting their photos done. We can also be flexible to jump around a bit and go with the flow. For example, if your toddler isn’t cooperating or the baby needs to be fed, we can try a different grouping and come back to them later.
